Tradition — we remember them out loud

The day of the faithful departed is not a sad day. It is the day we put your photo, your favorite food and a candle on the table, and we tell your stories again so that no one forgets.

In Cantona we celebrate it as it is celebrated in the family: outdoors, with the children running through the trees, the smell of bread and the orange of cempasuchil marking the way. Bring your parents, your children and the photo of whoever you want to remember.

What you will find

• Altars and offerings made by families and businesses in the community
• Catrinas Contest and Typical Mexican Costume
• Farmers Market with local sellers
• Music, food and bread of the dead
• Farm animals and play areas for children
• Camino de Cempasúchil to take photos

Program

• 8:00–10:00 am — Altar setup: Registered families and businesses complete their offering.
• 10:00 am — Doors open: Farmers Market, Cantona Ranch. Play areas open all day.
• 11:00 am — Welcome.
• 12:00 pm — Catrinas parade and contest — Categories for adults and children.
• 1:30 pm — Altar Contest Award.
• 3:00 pm — Closing of the event.

Competition times can be adjusted. We will confirm the final program one week before the event.

Tickets

• Farmers Market — $50 for sellers. Promote your business and sell your products. See the seller application above.
• Adults — $20. Access to the Day of the Dead event and the Cantona Ranch.
• Children from 1 to 18 years old — $15. Includes playgrounds and farm animals.
• Under 1 year — free.

Buy online to get in faster. Tickets are also sold at the door on the day of the event.

Records

limited quota. Registration closes on October 25 or when places are filled out.

• Altar Contest or Offering — $25. Mount your altar on the ranch and compete for first place. We assign your space; You bring the decoration, the photos and table.
• Catrina and typical costume contest — $15. Parade and contest of catrinas, catrines and typical Mexican costume. Categories for adults and children.
• Seller Space — $50. Its sales space throughout the day, in front of the families that arrive at the event and the Farmers Market.

✨ Altars and Catrinas Contest

Day of the Faithful Departed — November 1

In celebration of our traditions and in memory of our loved ones, we invite you to participate in our altar and catrines contest.

🕯️ Altar Contest

The altars will be evaluated taking into account:

• 🌼 Tradition — 25 points. Use of traditional elements such as flowers, candles, photographs, food, water, chopped paper, etc.
• 🎨 Creativity — 25 points. Originality and creativity in the design of the altar.
• ❤️ Meaning — 20 points. The altar must represent love, respect and memory towards the deceased.
• ✨ Presentation — 20 points. Order, cleanliness, decoration and harmony of all elements.
• 📖 Story — 10 points. Briefly explain who the altar is dedicated to and the meaning of its elements.

Total: 100 points.

🏆 It will be awarded with first, second and third place to the altar that best represents the tradition, creativity and memory of our loved ones.

Catrinas Contest

Categories: Adults / Youth and Children.

The catrinas will be evaluated taking into account:

• 👗 Costume and characterization — 25 points. Creativity, details and representation of La Catrina.
• 🎨 Creativity and originality — 25 points. Originality in the design and use of materials.
• 💄 Makeup and accessories — 25 points. Makeup, accessories and attention to details.
• 🌹 Presentation and security — 25 points. Carriage and general presentation, respect and tribute.

Total: 100 points.

🏆 La Catrina who best represents the tradition, creativity and meaning of our culture, always with respect, will be awarded. There will be first, second and third place in the Adults and Young/Children categories.

🌼 Note for participants

The evaluation will not depend on the cost of the clothing, decoration or materials used. It will mainly take into account creativity, effort, tradition, meaning and presentation.

The jury will go through the spaces during the event, observing attitudes and behaviors that represent a true tribute to dressing like catrinas.
